Mary Kay Manning's love of dance has been a lifelong passion. She opened her first dance studio in North Royalton in 1983 and began accepting budding young dancers. The Medina County community was blessed in 1997 with the opening of the Mary Kay Manning Dance Studio in Brunswick, providing two locations for students of all ages to train with some of the finest dance instructors in the Northeast Ohio region. The Mary Kay Manning Dance Studio offers a large curriculum of classes in jazz, hip-hop, tap, ballet/pointe, lyrical, acro, and ballroom dancing which allows her students to be placed in class according to both age and ability. Technique and stage presence are stressed in each class and are demonstrated yearly at the annual dance production. Mary Kay is an active member of Dance Masters of America where she keeps up to date on the latest developments in the world of dance and her frequent trips to New York keep her current with the latest dance styles. Mary Kay has a wide background in her study of dance and the Mary Kay Manning Dance Studio has been voted "Best Dance Studio" in the Cleveland/Akron Family Magazine. She has studied with Dee Hillier, Jerry Burr, Pam Pabisco, Alex Martin, and Dave and Shirley Morgenstern and has majored in dance at Ohio University. She has been involved in multiple dance productions and danced with the Cavalier dance line in addition to training in the Gilda Marx aerobic program where she became certified as an instructor in 1987 by N.D.E.I.T.A. She has participated in master dance classes of several great teachers including Luigi, Frank Hatchet, Charles Kelly, and Joe Tremaine and has also had several years experience as a David Lee Model, enhancing her knowledge of show business. During Mary Kay's past twenty-three years in operation, she has continued to present a yearly production featuring all her students. She has developed a student teacher program for future dance leaders and has organized performing groups of various ages to experience outside performances and competitions where they've won several first place awards. Her students were asked by Sesame Streets' Bob McGrath to perform live with him at the Palace Theatre in 1999 and together as a group experienced New York City and had the opportunity to study at the Broadway Dance Center. Mary Kay, along with her dedicated instructors, has led her students to many successful endeavors including the winning of the title "Junior Mr. Dance of Ohio" and "Junior Mr. Superstar". Mary Kay is assisted by her daughter Tammy who obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Dance at Akron University in 1999. While at Akron University, Tammy received the "Senior Award" for outstanding dance accomplishments and she directed and performed for the professional Crunch Dance Team in 1998/99. Beginning her dancing career at age five, Tammy is currently the Assistant Director, teaching, performing, and choreographing at the studio. Several of the students at the Mary Kay Manning Dance Studio have become dance majors themselves when they went to college and were accepted onto the college dance teams. Some of her students are now dancers on cruise ships and furthering their study of dance while working in New York City dance studios. The Mary Kay Manning Dance Studio teachers and students were honored to have as their guest teacher, Mr. Valery Lantratov, Honored Artist of Russia and Artistic Director and Founder of the Russian National Ballet Foundation. Mr. Lantratov visited for the second time to teach a Master Class in Classical Russian Ballet Technique. They are looking forward to his next visit to the United States and to another wonderful class!
